Bg 10.1
श्रीभगवानुवाच (THE LORD SAID):

भूय एव महाबाहो शृणु मे परमं वचः।
यत्तेऽहं प्रीयमाणाय वक्ष्यामि हितकाम्यया॥१०- १॥
śrī-bhagavān uvāca
bhūya eva mahā-bāho
śṛṇu me paramaṁ vacaḥ
yat te 'haṁ prīyamāṇāya
vakṣyāmi hita-kāmyayā

슈리 바가반이 말했다.

오, 마하바호(아르주나)여! 크게 기뻐하는 그대에게 나의 지고의 가르침을 다시 말해 줄 것이니 한 번 더 들어 보아라.

Word for word:

Translation: 
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Listen again, O mighty-armed Arjuna. Because you are My dear friend, for your benefit I shall speak to you further, giving knowledge that is better than what I have already explained.



Bg 10.2
न मे विदुः सुरगणाः प्रभवं न महर्षयः।
अहमादिर्हि देवानां महर्षीणां च सर्वशः॥१०- २॥
na me viduḥ sura-gaṇāḥ
prabhavaṁ na maharṣayaḥ
aham ādir hi devānāṁ
maharṣīṇāṁ ca sarvaśaḥ

신들도, 위대한 현자들조차도 나의 기원을 알지 못한다. 왜냐하면 나는 진실로 신들과 위대한 현자들의 근원이기 때문이다.

na — never; me — My; viduḥ — know; sura-gaṇāḥ — the demigods; prabhavam — origin, opulences; na — never; mahā-ṛṣayaḥ — great sages; aham — I am; ādiḥ — the origin; hi — certainly; devānām — of the demigods; mahā-ṛṣīṇām — of the great sages; ca — also; sarvaśaḥ — in all respects.

Translation: 
Neither the hosts of demigods nor the great sages know My origin or opulences, for, in every respect, I am the source of the demigods and sages.



Bg 10.3
यो मामजमनादिं च वेत्ति लोकमहेश्वरम्।
असंमूढः स मर्त्येषु सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते॥१०- ३॥
yo mām ajam anādiṁ ca
vetti loka-maheśvaram
asammūḍhaḥ sa martyeṣu
sarva-pāpaiḥ pramucyate

나를 태어남도 없고 시작도 없는 존재로, 모든 세상들의 위대한 주主로 아는 사람은 죽을 수 밖에 없는 존재들 가운데에서 미혹되지 않으며, 모든 죄에서 해방된다.

Translation: 
He who knows Me as the unborn, as the beginningless, as the Supreme Lord of all the worlds—he only, undeluded among men, is freed from all sins.



Bg 10.4-5
बुद्धिर्ज्ञानमसंमोहः क्षमा सत्यं दमः शमः।
सुखं दुःखं भवोऽभावो भयं चाभयमेव च॥१०- ४॥
 
अहिंसा समता तुष्टिस्तपो दानं यशोऽयशः।
 भवन्ति भावा भूतानां मत्त एव पृथग्विधाः॥१०- ५॥
buddhir jñānam asammohaḥ
kṣamā satyaṁ damaḥ śamaḥ
sukhaṁ duḥkhaṁ bhavo 'bhāvo
bhayaṁ cābhayam eva ca
ahiṁsā samatā tuṣṭis
tapo dānaṁ yaśo 'yaśaḥ
bhavanti bhāvā bhūtānāṁ
matta eva pṛthag-vidhāḥ

지성, 지식, 미혹되지 않음, 인내, 진실, 자제, 고요, 기쁨과 고통, 태어남과 죽음, 두려움과 두려움 없음, 비폭력, 평등, 만족, 고행, 자선, 명예와 불명예 등 존재들의 이 모든 다양한 속성들은 나에게서 생겨난 것이다.

Translation: 
Intelligence, knowledge, freedom from doubt and delusion, forgiveness, truthfulness, control of the senses, control of the mind, happiness and distress, birth, death, fear, fearlessness, nonviolence, equanimity, satisfaction, austerity, charity, fame and infamy—all these various qualities of living beings are created by Me alone.



Bg 10.6
महर्षयः सप्त पूर्वे चत्वारो मनवस्तथा।
मद्भावा मानसा जाता येषां लोक इमाः प्रजाः॥१०- ६॥
maharṣayaḥ sapta pūrve
catvāro manavas tathā
mad-bhāvā mānasā jātā
yeṣāṁ loka imāḥ prajāḥ

고대의 일곱 현자들과 네 마누들 또한 나의 마음에서 태어났으며, 그들로부터 세상의 이 모든 피조물들이 나왔다.

mahā-ṛṣayaḥ — the great sages; sapta — seven; pūrve — before; catvāraḥ — four; manavaḥ — Manus; tathā — also; mat-bhāvāḥ — born of Me; mānasāḥ — from the mind; jātāḥ — born; yeṣām — of them; loke — in the world; imāḥ — all this; prajāḥ — population.

Translation: 
The seven great sages and before them the four other great sages and the Manus [progenitors of mankind] come from Me, born from My mind, and all the living beings populating the various planets descend from them.



Bg 10.7
एतां विभूतिं योगं च मम यो वेत्ति तत्त्वतः।
सोऽविकम्पेन योगेन युज्यते नात्र संशयः॥१०- ७॥
etāṁ vibhūtiṁ yogaṁ ca
mama yo vetti tattvataḥ
so 'vikalpena yogena
yujyate nātra saṁśayaḥ

진실로 광대한 나의 존재와 나의 요가의 힘을 완전히 아는 사람은 흔들림 없는 요가가 주어진다. 이는 의심할 여지가 없다.

Translation: 
One who is factually convinced of this opulence and mystic power of Mine engages in unalloyed devotional service; of this there is no doubt.



Bg 10.8
अहं सर्वस्य प्रभवो मत्तः सर्वं प्रवर्तते।
इति मत्वा भजन्ते मां बुधा भावसमन्विताः॥१०- ८॥
ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavo
mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate
iti matvā bhajante māṁ
budhā bhāva-samanvitāḥ

내가 모든 것의 근원이며, 나에게서 모든 것이 나온다. 현명한 사람들은 이것을 알고서 그들의 온 가슴으로 나를 숭배한다.

Word for word: 
aham — I; sarvasya — of all; prabhavaḥ — the source of generation; mattaḥ — from Me; sarvam — everything; pravartate — emanates; iti — thus; matvā — knowing; bhajante — become devoted; mām — unto Me; budhāḥ — the learned; bhāva-samanvitāḥ — with great attention.

Translation: 
I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts.



Bg 10.9
मच्चित्ता मद्गतप्राणा बोधयन्तः परस्परम्।
कथयन्तश्च मां नित्यं तुष्यन्ति च रमन्ति च॥१०- ९॥
mac-cittā mad-gata-prāṇā
bodhayantaḥ parasparam
kathayantaś ca māṁ nityaṁ
tuṣyanti ca ramanti ca

그들의 마음을 나에게 고정시키고, 그들의 삶을 나에게 몰입하고서, 그들은 나의 힘과 영광 등에 대해서 말한다. 그래서 그들은 늘 만족하며 기뻐한다.

mat-cittāḥ — their minds fully engaged in Me; mat-gata-prāṇāḥ — their lives devoted to Me; bodhayantaḥ — preaching; parasparam — among themselves; kathayantaḥ — talking; ca — also; mām — about Me; nityam — perpetually; tuṣyanti — become pleased; ca — also; ramanti — enjoy transcendental bliss; ca — also.

Translation: 
The thoughts of My pure devotees dwell in Me, their lives are fully devoted to My service, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss from always enlightening one another and conversing about Me.



Bg 10.10
तेषां सततयुक्तानां भजतां प्रीतिपूर्वकम्।
ददामि बुद्धियोगं तं येन मामुपयान्ति ते॥१०- १०॥
teṣāṁ satata-yuktānāṁ
bhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam
dadāmi buddhi-yogaṁ taṁ
yena mām upayānti te

항상 나와 교감하며 강렬한 사랑으로 나를 숭배하는 사람들에게 나는 이해의 요가를 준다. 그들은 이 요가로 나에게 온다.

Word for word: 
teṣām — unto them; satata-yuktānām — always engaged; bhajatām — in rendering devotional service; prīti-pūrvakam — in loving ecstasy; dadāmi — I give; buddhi-yogam — real intelligence; tam — that; yena — by which; mām — unto Me; upayānti — come; te — they.

Translation: 
To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.



Bg 10.11
तेषामेवानुकम्पार्थमहमज्ञानजं तमः।
नाशयाम्यात्मभावस्थो ज्ञानदीपेन भास्वता॥१०- ११॥
teṣām evānukampārtham
aham ajñāna-jaṁ tamaḥ
nāśayāmy ātma-bhāva-stho
jñāna-dīpena bhāsvatā

오로지 그들에 대한 연민으로, 그들의 가슴 안에 거주하고 있는 나는 무지에서 생겨난 어둠을 지식의 빛나는 등불로 소멸시킨다.

teṣām — for them; eva — certainly; anukampā-artham — to show special mercy; aham — I; ajñāna-jam — due to ignorance; tamaḥ — darkness; nāśayāmi — dispel; ātma-bhāva — within their hearts; sthaḥ — situated; jñāna — of knowledge; dīpena — with the lamp; bhāsvatā — glowing.

Translation: 
To show them special mercy, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.



Bg 10.12-13
अर्जुन उवाच (Arjun Said):
 
परं ब्रह्म परं धाम पवित्रं परमं भवान्।
पुरुषं शाश्वतं दिव्यमादिदेवमजं विभुम्॥१०- १२॥

आहुस्त्वामृषयः सर्वे देवर्षिर्नारदस्तथा।
असितो देवलो व्यासः स्वयं चैव ब्रवीषि मे॥१०- १३॥
arjuna uvāca
paraṁ brahma paraṁ dhāma
pavitraṁ paramaṁ bhavān
puruṣaṁ śāśvataṁ divyam
ādi-devam ajaṁ vibhum
āhus tvām ṛṣayaḥ sarve
devarṣir nāradas tathā
asito devalo vyāsaḥ
svayaṁ caiva bravīṣi me

아르주나가 말했다.

당신께서는 지고의 브라흐만이시며, 지고의 거처이시며, 지고의 정화자이십니다. 모든 현자들은 당신을 영원하시며, 스스로 빛나는 푸루샤이시며, 신들의 근원이시며, 태어남이 없으시며, 어디에나 편재해 계시는 분이라고 선언합니다. 신성한 현자인 나라다, 아시타, 데발라, 비야사도 그렇게 말했습니다. 그리고 당신 역시 저에게 그렇게 말씀하십니다.

Translation: 
Arjuna said: You are the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the ultimate abode, the purest, the Absolute Truth. You are the eternal, transcendental, original person, the unborn, the greatest. All the great sages such as Nārada, Asita, Devala and Vyāsa confirm this truth about You, and now You Yourself are declaring it to me.



Bg 10.14
सर्वमेतदृतं मन्ये यन्मां वदसि केशव।
न हि ते भगवन्व्यक्तिं विदुर्देवा न दानवाः॥१०- १४॥
sarvam etad ṛtaṁ manye
yan māṁ vadasi keśava
na hi te bhagavan vyaktiṁ
vidur devā na dānavāḥ

당신께서 저에게 말씀하신 이 모두가 진실입니다. 오, 케샤바(크리슈나)시여! 신들도 악마들도 당신의 나타남을 알지 못하기 때문입니다.

sarvam — all; etat — this; ṛtam — truth; manye — I accept; yat — which; mām — unto me; vadasi — You tell; keśava — O Kṛṣṇa; na — never; hi — certainly; te — Your; bhagavan — O Personality of Godhead; vyaktim — revelation; viduḥ — can know; devāḥ — the demigods; na — nor; dānavāḥ — the demons.

Translation: 
O Kṛṣṇa, I totally accept as truth all that You have told me. Neither the demigods nor the demons, O Lord, can understand Your personality.



Bg 10.15
स्वयमेवात्मनात्मानं वेत्थ त्वं पुरुषोत्तम।
भूतभावन भूतेश देवदेव जगत्पते॥१०- १५॥
svayam evātmanātmānaṁ
vettha tvaṁ puruṣottama
bhūta-bhāvana bhūteśa
deva-deva jagat-pate

오, 지고의 푸루쇼타마(크리슈나)시여! 오, 모든 존재들의 창조자시여! 오, 존재들의 주인이시여! 오, 신들의 신이시여! 오, 우주의 지배자시여! 당신만이 당신 스스로를 아십니다.

Translation: 
Indeed, You alone know Yourself by Your own internal potency, O Supreme Person, origin of all, Lord of all beings, God of gods, Lord of the universe!



Bg 10.16
वक्तुमर्हस्यशेषेण दिव्या ह्यात्मविभूतयः।
याभिर्विभूतिभिर्लोकानिमांस्त्वं व्याप्य तिष्ठसि॥१०- १६॥
vaktum arhasy aśeṣeṇa
divyā hy ātma-vibhūtayaḥ
yābhir vibhūtibhir lokān
imāṁs tvaṁ vyāpya tiṣṭhasi

당신만이 당신의 신성한 힘에 대하여 남김없이 말씀하실 수 있습니다. 그 힘에 의해 당신은 온 세상에 충만해 계십니다.

Translation: 
Please tell me in detail of Your divine opulences by which You pervade all these worlds.



Bg 10.17
कथं विद्यामहं योगिंस्त्वां सदा परिचिन्तयन्।
केषु केषु च भावेषु चिन्त्योऽसि भगवन्मया॥१०- १७॥
kathaṁ vidyām ahaṁ yogiṁs
tvāṁ sadā paricintayan
keṣu keṣu ca bhāveṣu
cintyo 'si bhagavan mayā

오, 요기시여! 제가 어떻게 명상을 해야 당신을 알 수 있습니까? 오, 주여! 제가 명상해야 할 당신의 다양한 것들은 무엇입니까?

katham — how; vidyām aham — shall I know; yogin — O supreme mystic; tvām — You; sadā — always; paricintayan — thinking of; keṣu — in which; keṣu — in which; ca — also; bhāveṣu — natures; cintyaḥ asi — You are to be remembered; bhagavan — O Supreme; mayā — by me.

Translation: 
O Kṛṣṇa, O supreme mystic, how shall I constantly think of You, and how shall I know You? In what various forms are You to be remembered, O Supreme Personality of Godhead?



Bg 10.18
विस्तरेणात्मनो योगं विभूतिं च जनार्दन।
भूयः कथय तृप्तिर्हि शृण्वतो नास्ति मेऽमृतम्॥१०- १८॥
vistareṇātmano yogaṁ
vibhūtiṁ ca janārdana
bhūyaḥ kathaya tṛptir hi
śṛṇvato nāsti me 'mṛtam

오, 자나르다나(크리슈나)시여! 당신의 요가의 힘과 영광에 대하여 다시 한 번 자세히 말씀하여 주십시오. 왜냐하면 저는 감로 같은 당신의 말씀을 듣는 것이 전혀 싫증나지 않기 때문입니다.

vistareṇa — in detail; ātmanaḥ — Your; yogam — mystic power; vibhūtim — opulences; ca — also; jana-ardana — O killer of the atheists; bhūyaḥ — again; kathaya — describe; tṛptiḥ — satisfaction; hi — certainly; śṛṇvataḥ — hearing; na asti — there is not; me — my; amṛtam — nectar.

Translation: 
O Janārdana, again please describe in detail the mystic power of Your opulences. I am never satiated in hearing about You, for the more I hear the more I want to taste the nectar of Your words.



Bg 10.19
श्रीभगवानुवाच (THE LORD SAID):
 
हन्त ते कथयिष्यामि दिव्या ह्यात्मविभूतयः।
प्राधान्यतः कुरुश्रेष्ठ नास्त्यन्तो विस्तरस्य मे॥१०- १९॥
śrī-bhagavān uvāca
hanta te kathayiṣyāmi
divyā hy ātma-vibhūtayaḥ
prādhānyataḥ kuru-śreṣṭha
nāsty anto vistarasya me

슈리 바가반이 말했다.

이제 나는 그대에게 나의 거룩한 영광들 중 두드러진 것 몇 가지를 말해 주겠다. 오, 쿠루슈레슈타(아르주나)여! 나의 영광을 자세히 설명하는 데는 끝이 없기 때문이다.

Translation: 
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Yes, I will tell you of My splendorous manifestations, but only of those which are prominent, O Arjuna, for My opulence is limitless.



Bg 10.20
अहमात्मा गुडाकेश सर्वभूताशयस्थितः।
अहमादिश्च मध्यं च भूतानामन्त एव च॥१०- २०॥
aham ātmā guḍākeśa
sarva-bhūtāśaya-sthitaḥ
aham ādiś ca madhyaṁ ca
bhūtānām anta eva ca

오, 구다케사(아르주나)여! 나는 모든 존재들의 가슴속에 자리하고 있는 참나이다. 나는 모든 존재들의 시작이요, 중간이요, 또한 끝이다.

Word for word: 
aham — I; ātmā — the soul; guḍākeśa — O Arjuna; sarva-bhūta — of all living entities; āśaya-sthitaḥ — situated within the heart; aham — I am; ādiḥ — the origin; ca — also; madhyam — middle; ca — also; bhūtānām — of all living entities; antaḥ — end; eva — certainly; ca — and.

Translation: 
I am the Supersoul, O Arjuna, seated in the hearts of all living entities. I am the beginning, the middle and the end of all beings.



Bg 10.21
आदित्यानामहं विष्णुर्ज्योतिषां रविरंशुमान्।
मरीचिर्मरुतामस्मि नक्षत्राणामहं शशी॥१०- २१॥
ādityānām ahaṁ viṣṇur
jyotiṣāṁ ravir aṁśumān
marīcir marutām asmi
nakṣatrāṇām ahaṁ śaśī

나는 아디티야들 가운데 비슈누이며, 빛들 가운데 눈부신 태양이며, 마루트들 가운데 마리치이며, 별들 가운데 달이다.

ādityānām — of the Ādityas; aham — I am; viṣṇuḥ — the Supreme Lord; jyotiṣām — of all luminaries; raviḥ — the sun; aṁśu-mān — radiant; marīciḥ — Marīci; marutām — of the Maruts; asmi — I am; nakṣatrāṇām — of the stars; aham — I am; śaśī — the moon.

Translation: 
Of the Ādityas I am Viṣṇu, of lights I am the radiant sun, of the Maruts I am Marīci, and among the stars I am the moon.

वेदानां सामवेदोऽस्मि देवानामस्मि वासवः।
इन्द्रियाणां मनश्चास्मि भूतानामस्मि चेतना॥१०- २२॥
vedānāṁ sāma-vedo 'smi
devānām asmi vāsavaḥ
indriyāṇāṁ manaś cāsmi
bhūtānām asmi cetanā

베다들 가운데 사마 베다이며, 신들 가운데 인드라이며, 감각들 가운데 마음이며, 살아 있는 모든 존재들 가운데 지성이다.

Translation: 
Of the Vedas I am the Sāma Veda; of the demigods I am Indra, the king of heaven; of the senses I am the mind; and in living beings I am the living force [consciousness].



Bg 10.23
रुद्राणां शंकरश्चास्मि वित्तेशो यक्षरक्षसाम्।
वसूनां पावकश्चास्मि मेरुः शिखरिणामहम्॥१०- २३॥
rudrāṇāṁ śaṅkaraś cāsmi
vitteśo yakṣa-rakṣasām
vasūnāṁ pāvakaś cāsmi
meruḥ śikhariṇām aham

루드라들 가운데 샹카라(쉬바)이며, 약샤들과 락샤사들 가운데 부의 신인 쿠베라이며, 바수들 가운데 불(야그니)의 신이며, 산들 가운데 메루산이다.

Translation: 
Of all the Rudras I am Lord Śiva, of the Yakṣas and Rākṣasas I am the Lord of wealth [Kuvera], of the Vasus I am fire [Agni], and of mountains I am Meru.

पुरोधसां च मुख्यं मां विद्धि पार्थ बृहस्पतिम्।
सेनानीनामहं स्कन्दः सरसामस्मि सागरः॥१०- २४॥
purodhasāṁ ca mukhyaṁ māṁ
viddhi pārtha bṛhaspatim
senānīnām ahaṁ skandaḥ
sarasām asmi sāgaraḥ

오, 파르타(아르주나)여! 왕실 사제들 가운데 그들의 으뜸인 브리하스파티임을 알아라. 장군들 가운데 스칸다(브리하스파티)이며, 호수들 가운데 바다이다.

महर्षीणां भृगुरहं गिरामस्म्येकमक्षरम्।
यज्ञानां जपयज्ञोऽस्मि स्थावराणां हिमालयः॥१०- २५॥
maharṣīṇāṁ bhṛgur ahaṁ
girām asmy ekam akṣaram
yajñānāṁ japa-yajño 'smi
sthāvarāṇāṁ himālayaḥ

위대한 리쉬들 가운데 브리구이며, 언어들 가운데 '옴' 음절이며, 희생 제의들 가운데 자파(조용한 반복) 제의이며, 움직이지 않는 것들 가운데 히말라야이다.

अश्वत्थः सर्ववृक्षाणां देवर्षीणां च नारदः।
गन्धर्वाणां चित्ररथः सिद्धानां कपिलो मुनिः॥१०- २६॥
aśvatthaḥ sarva-vṛkṣāṇāṁ
devarṣīṇāṁ ca nāradaḥ
gandharvāṇāṁ citrarathaḥ
siddhānāṁ kapilo muniḥ

모든 나무들 가운데 아슈와타이며, 신성한 현자(리쉬)들 가운데 나라다이며, 간다르바들 가운데 치트라라타이며, 성인(싯다)들 가운데 카필라 현자이다.

उच्चैःश्रवसमश्वानां विद्धि माममृतोद्भवम्।
ऐरावतं गजेन्द्राणां नराणां च नराधिपम्॥१०- २७॥
uccaiḥśravasam aśvānāṁ
viddhi mām amṛtodbhavam
airāvataṁ gajendrāṇāṁ
narāṇāṁ ca narādhipam

말들 가운데 신성한 감로로부터 태어난 웃차이슈라바스이며, 위엄 있는 코끼리들 가운데 아이라바타이며, 인간들 가운데 왕임을 알라.

आयुधानामहं वज्रं धेनूनामस्मि कामधुक्।
प्रजनश्चास्मि कन्दर्पः सर्पाणामस्मि वासुकिः॥१०- २८॥
āyudhānām ahaṁ vajraṁ
dhenūnām asmi kāmadhuk
prajanaś cāsmi kandarpaḥ
sarpāṇām asmi vāsukiḥ

무기들 가운데 천둥번개이며, 젖소들 가운데 모든 소원을 들어주는 천상의 소 카마두크이며, 자손을 퍼뜨리는 자 가운데 사랑의 신인 칸다르파이며, 뱀들 가운데 바수키이다.

अनन्तश्चास्मि नागानां वरुणो यादसामहम्।
पितॄणामर्यमा चास्मि यमः संयमतामहम्॥१०- २९॥
anantaś cāsmi nāgānāṁ
varuṇo yādasām aham
pitṝṇām aryamā cāsmi
yamaḥ saṁyamatām aham

뱀들 가운데 영원한 존재인 아난타이며, 물의 존재들 가운데 바루나이며, 조상들 가운데 아리야만이며, 통제자들 가운데 야마이다.

प्रह्लादश्चास्मि दैत्यानां कालः कलयतामहम्।
मृगाणां च मृगेन्द्रोऽहं वैनतेयश्च पक्षिणाम्॥१०- ३०॥
prahlādaś cāsmi daityānāṁ
kālaḥ kalayatām aham
mṛgāṇāṁ ca mṛgendro 'haṁ
vainateyaś ca pakṣiṇām

디티의 자손 가운데 프라흘라다이며, 재는 것들 가운데 시간이며, 짐승들 가운데 짐승들의 왕인 사자이며, 새들 가운데 비슈누의 탈것인 가루다이다.

झषाणां मकरश्चास्मि स्रोतसामस्मि जाह्नवी॥१०- ३१॥
pavanaḥ pavatām asmi
rāmaḥ śastra-bhṛtām aham
jhaṣāṇāṁ makaraś cāsmi
srotasām asmi jāhnavī

깨끗하게 하는 것들 가운데 바람이며, 전사들 가운데 라마이며, 물고기들 가운데 상어이며, 강들 가운데 갠지스 강이다.

सर्गाणामादिरन्तश्च मध्यं चैवाहमर्जुन।
अध्यात्मविद्या विद्यानां वादः प्रवदतामहम्॥१०- ३२॥
sargāṇām ādir antaś ca
madhyaṁ caivāham arjuna
adhyātma-vidyā vidyānāṁ
vādaḥ pravadatām aham

창조물 가운데 처음이요, 중간이며, 또한 끝이다. 모든 지식들 가운데 참나를 아는 지식이며, 논쟁들 가운데 이성이다.

अक्षराणामकारोऽस्मि द्वन्द्वः सामासिकस्य च।
अहमेवाक्षयः कालो धाताहं विश्वतोमुखः॥१०- ३३॥
akṣarāṇām a-kāro 'smi
dvandvaḥ sāmāsikasya ca
aham evākṣayaḥ kālo
dhātāhaṁ viśvato-mukhaḥ

문자들 가운데 첫 번째 문자인 아(A)이며, 합성어들 가운데 복합어(드반드바)이다. 나 자신은 다할 줄 모르는 시간이며, 나는 모든 방향에 얼굴이 있는 분배자이다.

मृत्युः सर्वहरश्चाहमुद्भवश्च भविष्यताम्।
कीर्तिः श्रीर्वाक्च नारीणां स्मृतिर्मेधा धृतिः क्षमा॥१०- ३४॥
mṛtyuḥ sarva-haraś cāham
udbhavaś ca bhaviṣyatām
kīrtiḥ śrīr vāk ca nārīṇāṁ
smṛtir medhā dhṛtiḥ kṣamā

나는 모든 것을 앗아가는 죽음이며, 모든 미래의 존재들의 근원이다. 여성적인 힘들 가운데 영광, 행운, 말, 기억, 지성, 한결같음, 인내이다.

बृहत्साम तथा साम्नां गायत्री छन्दसामहम्।
मासानां मार्गशीर्षोऽहमृतूनां कुसुमाकरः॥१०- ३५॥
bṛhat-sāma tathā sāmnāṁ
gāyatrī chandasām aham
māsānāṁ mārga-śīrṣo 'ham
ṛtūnāṁ kusumākaraḥ

사마 찬가들 가운데 브리하트 사만이며, 운율들 가운데 가야트리이며, 매 월들 가운데 첫 번째 월인 1월이며, 계절들 가운데 꽃피는 계절인 봄이다.

tejas tejasvinām aham
jayo 'smi vyavasāyo 'smi
sattvaṁ sattvavatām aham

나는 속이는 것들 가운데 도박이며, 강한 자들의 용맹이다. 나는 승리요, 인내이며, 선한 자들의 선함(사트바)이다.

pāṇḍavānāṁ dhanañjayaḥ
munīnām apy ahaṁ vyāsaḥ
kavīnām uśanā kaviḥ

브리슈니 가문 가운데 바수데바이며, 판두의 아들들 가운데 다난자야이며, 성자들 가운데 비야사이며, 현자들 가운데 현자 우샤나스이다.

मौनं चैवास्मि गुह्यानां ज्ञानं ज्ञानवतामहम्॥१०- ३८॥
daṇḍo damayatām asmi
nītir asmi jigīṣatām
maunaṁ caivāsmi guhyānāṁ
jñānaṁ jñānavatām aham

나는 징벌하는 자들 가운데 홀笏이며, 정복하려는 자들 가운데 정치요, 비밀인 것들 가운데 침묵이며, 아는 자들 가운데 지식이다.

यच्चापि सर्वभूतानां बीजं तदहमर्जुन।
न तदस्ति विना यत्स्यान्मया भूतं चराचरम्॥१०- ३९॥
yac cāpi sarva-bhūtānāṁ
bījaṁ tad aham arjuna
na tad asti vinā yat syān
mayā bhūtaṁ carācaram

오, 아르주나여! 모든 존재들의 씨앗은 또한 나이다. 움직이는 것이든 움직이지 않는 것이든 나 없이 존재할 수 있는 것은 아무것도 없다.

नान्तोऽस्ति मम दिव्यानां विभूतीनां परन्तप।
एष तूद्देशतः प्रोक्तो विभूतेर्विस्तरो मया॥१०- ४०॥
nānto 'sti mama divyānāṁ
vibhūtīnāṁ parantapa
eṣa tūddeśataḥ prokto
vibhūter vistaro mayā

나의 신성한 영광들에는 끝이 없다. 오, 파란타파(아르주나)여! 나는 다만 몇 가지 예를 들어 나의 영광을 말하였다.

यद्यद्विभूतिमत्सत्त्वं श्रीमदूर्जितमेव वा।
तत्तदेवावगच्छ त्वं मम तेजोंऽशसंभवम्॥१०- ४१॥
yad yad vibhūtimat sattvaṁ
śrīmad ūrjitam eva vā
tat tad evāvagaccha tvaṁ
mama tejo-'ṁśa-sambhavam

어떤 존재가 아무리 영예롭고 빛나고 강하다 할지라도, 그것이 나의 광휘의 한 조각에서 나온 것임을 알아라.

विष्टभ्याहमिदं कृत्स्नमेकांशेन स्थितो जगत्॥१०- ४२॥
atha vā bahunaitena
kiṁ jñātena tavārjuna
viṣṭabhyāham idaṁ kṛtsnam
ekāṁśena sthito jagat

그러나 이 모든 장황한 것들을 안다 해도 그것이 그대에게 무슨 소용이 있겠는가? 오, 아르주나여! 나 자신의 한 부분으로 나는 이 온 우주를 지탱하고 있다.
